Keeping a Stiff Upper Lip, regardless...

The Gentleman’s Guide to Summer Beard Survival

Posted on July 28, 2025 by Captain P. Fawcett

Ah, sweet August! The very height of summer when the sun beats down and the mercury climbs. Unless, that is, it’s a British Bank Holiday weekend, in which case, pack a brolly.

For the hirsute gentleman embracing Summer of the Beard, all kinds of damp weather presents a conundrum: sweat, humidity, summer rain, and all that easy living, can turn your once-magnificent mane into a tangle of unruly mayhem.

But despair not chums! Pour a Pimms, pay attention to Captain Fawcett, and you’ll keep your mighty Beard looking fresh, smelling divine, and feeling as cool as a cucumber sandwich.

Sweat it out

It pains me to admit it, but one’s Beard is a veritable sponge for sweat, which means it can quickly become a breeding ground for itchy irritation and smell somewhat er…neglected. Combat this seasonal horror by:

  • Brushing your Beard several times a day with a firm Brush to exfoliate perspiration and dead skin.
  • Washing with a gentle Beard Shampoo regularly. But do avoid over-washing to prevent dryness.
  • Applying a few drops of lightweight Beard Oil to keep hair soft and hydrated without weighing it down. No man wants to wilt in the heat. Ahem.

Summer Beard must-haves

All for one and one for all! The three musketeers of one’s Summer Beard!

  • Balm provides light hold and supple structure for salty seaside strolls.
  • Oil replenishes moisture lost to the sun, sweat and Sangria.
  • Butter is your weekly indulgence; rich, nourishing, perfect for grey or coarse hair needing a little extra summer loving.
  • Apply Oil daily, Balm for styling and Butter as required, ideally once or twice a week for deep and satisfying conditioning.

Splash it all over - swimming and Beard care

Chlorine in pools can be the arch-nemesis of your Beard. Always rinse your whiskers immediately after swimming in a chemical soup. Do not swim in the strangely warm stream by that smug little lad smiling his horrid smile. Shampoo thoroughly, then apply Beard Balm to replenish moisture. Let your Beard dry naturally, ideally out of direct sun, in a striped deckchair, under dappled shade, with a copy of The Fawcett Times and an iced coffee. Bearded bliss.

Beard styling in the heat

Humidity can make your Beard frizz like spun candy floss at the fair. Perchance it is even pink - to each his own. Keep it groomed with a slick of Captain Fawcett Beard Balm and carry a Comb for elegant touch-ups after a breezy walk or swanky summer soirée.

Food vs Beard

Sticky sauces, melting ice cream and lip smacking BBQ delights are all part of summer’s gourmet charm. Keep a Comb about your person, and flourish a pocket square or napkin. Embrace the mess with relish. Literally! And keep your upper lip tips standing proud of the ketchup with a Captain Fawcett Moustache Wax for extra hold and superior hirsute elevation.

With these simple, yet phenomenally effective steps, your Beard will not only thrive in summer, it will be the talk of the town.
