THE FAWCETT FILES: INTRODUCING THE AMBASSADORS EXTRAORDINAIRE
RUSSELL BRISTOW - THE MAN BEHIND THE MOUSTACHE!

Name, Rank and Serial Number: Russell Bristow, Tree Surgeon, Skateboarder and Dali Moustache Champion @Dangeruss777 on Instagram and Twitter.

How did you become involved with Captain Fawcett?
I was photographed by Iain Crockart at my very first competition – the 2014 British Beard and Moustache Championships in Bath. The portrait was subsequently used by the Captain in a set of post cards and I was sent some. I have been aware of the brand since the beginning and I got to know Richie and the Fawcett gang from seeing them at various competitions around the country. To cut a long story short after years of loving the brand and the staff, when the Captain asked me to become an Ambassador in September last year, this I could not refuse!

What is your personal grooming routine?
My own grooming routine consists of washing the moustache every morning then styling it for the day, then in the evening I un-style, wash twice, dry it and then apply overnight oil. Repeat every day. I usually shave the face area twice a week.

What are your essential Captain Fawcett grooming items?
1. Captain Fawcett’s Beer’d Shampoo

2. Captain Fawcett’s Wild Boar Bristle Brush

3. Expedition Strength Moustache Wax

4. The Bearded Dame Hair Elixir (Harnaam Kaur)

5. Ricki Hall’s Beer & Baccy Aftershave

Who are your Hirsute Heroes?
This one is tough, there are so many amazing hairy folks. I could write you a list as long as my arm but I will stick to moustache heroes. I have a couple first of all. Jackie Lynn Ellison has one of the most majestic moustaches I have ever set my eyes on, he is a former British/American and I believe double world champion. Also, Jeffrey Moustache who again has an incredible moustache and competition record. I believe it includes 5 top 3 finishes in the World’s Competition in different categories. He is also a stunning photographer and makes his own glorious hats! Last of all Mr King, as he always looks exquisite, he is also a former Dali Moustache World Champion and British champion in English moustache category at which he also won best in show - which is rare for a moustache competitor to win!

What qualities make the quintessential modern gentleman?
In my opinion the qualities of a quintessential modern gentleman should be:

1. Effort – Always try and make an effort, it shows you care.
2. Style – Find your own style and go with it!
3. Love – Spread the love. It’s what wise men do.

Which 3 words sum up Captain Fawcett
Quality, attention to detail & passion!

What would make you shave?
This one is easy. Nothing! Ever! It’s a life behind bars for me, handle bars!

What food stuff is most perilous for a hirsute fellow?
Well luckily I don’t suffer too badly as I only have a moustache and no beard but when my upper lip’s not styled I find egg yolk the worst as it gets in there and dries solid!

When did you first grow your moustache?
Back around 2014 sometime, my good friend Thomas grew one and I thought it looked ace! So, I grew one too and never looked back!

Has your personal style ever got you into trouble?
I don’t think it has, it’s been nothing but positive and amazing things have come from it. So, I’d say always just be you and do what you want.

Any advice for competition beginners?
I would give two main pieces of advice.
- Make an effort with the facial furniture and also with your outfit as this always makes the facial hair pop out!
- Also, have fun! They are always a great event to be a part of. You’re with like-minded people having a laugh, so enjoy and don’t take it too seriously.

Your proudest moment?
That has to be becoming the Dali Moustache World Champion in Antwerp in May this year. It has been something I’ve dreamt about since I knew it existed 5 years ago!

And it was made all the sweeter that I got to share it with with my beautiful girlfriend, Faith, and all my bearded and moustached friends including the Fawcett team.

Roll on 2021, let’s see if I can do it all over again!
